Via ferrata

Anton Renk via ferrata | Fendels

Opening status | Closed
An extraordinary and fast-paced sport via ferrata in the Alps. Only suitable for absolute specialists, with no bypass option or emergency exit!

The via ferrata climbs up alongside the Anton Renk waterfall. Two overhanging sections must be climbed over. The via ferrata was opened in 2007.

Character: Well-secured via ferrata in beautiful surroundings. Usually cool even in the summer months due to its northern orientation. Due to the waterfall, the lower part can often be wet from the wind. In addition, beware of falling ice in spring. The energy-sapping overhang in the exit area in particular should not be underestimated.

Approach: From Fendels, take the lift to the Sattelklause mountain station (1,870 m). Pass the Fendler Alm (1,970 m) to the Zirmesköpfle. Follow a beautifully laid out high-altitude trail to the Fissjochboden. A newly constructed path leads down to the Stalanzer Bach stream. First follow the stream and then turn right through the forest to the start of the via ferrata (approx. 2100 m).
Ascent time: approx. 2 hours
Alternative ascent: from Fendels: 3 hours or
from Ried 3-3.5 hours.

Descent: from the via ferrata, turn left and climb over the boulders to the Anton Renk Hut (2260 m) and take the high trail back to the Zirmesköpfl and Fendels, or descend from the Anton Renk Hut on a trail to the Stalanzer Alm and continue to Ried.
