Specialties in the Tyrolean nature paradise

The Kaunertal – on new and well-trodden paths. Experience sustainable leisure and nature adventures in the heart of an unspoilt cultural landscape.

For 20 years now, the Kaunertal has been a part of the Nature Park Kaunergrat. It is here that a relationship with nature and tourism-focused ecology are brought together. The Kaunertal is one of Tyrol's most captivating alpine valleys - a place where pristine nature and rugged mountain scenery invite you to slow down and rediscover what truly matters. Countless unique spots hold a magic that is entirely their own.

We have set ourselves a clear mission: to bring people closer to the extraordinary places the Kaunertal has to offer, with sustainability at the heart of every experience. Through a range of carefully chosen projects, the Kaunertal nature park and glacier region is embracing sustainability and the lost art of slowing down.

Lived sustainability in the nature park and glacier region

Climate protection and an adjustment to climate change concerns us all. Listed below, you will find the specific measures we are implementing to reduce CO2 emissions and to adapt to climate change.

There is, however, still much to do!

The Kaunertal nature park and glacier region is among those regions that have already implemented measures to reduce CO2 emissions and adapt to climate change - constantly reflecting on what can be improved, and recognising above all that raising awareness is a matter of many small, achievable steps. That this path is a promising one - and recognised as such on a global scale - has been confirmed by the Kaunertal's recent designation as a BEST TOURISM VILLAGE by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in recognition of its sustainable approach. Of the 170 destinations from 75 countries that applied worldwide, only 44 received the award. The Kaunertal is proud to be one of them.

Holder of the Austrian Ecolabel

Recognition for lived responsibility

On 16th June 2025, the Kaunertal received the Austrian Ecolabel for Tourism Regions - a significant accolade recognising the region's wide-ranging commitment to climate protection, accessibility, and sustainable tourism development, placing it among Tyrol's most dedicated regions.
