Summer experiences for families in the Kaunertal

Nature, fun, action

Enjoy - Look - Marvel

The Kaunertal is the ideal place for unforgettable family adventures in summer.

Roam the entire region on the Kaunertal nature and play trail. Try the Holderli Seppl via ferrata for a safe, mountain climbing experience for families. Or start from the Kaunertal Glacier Road and set off for hiking destinations at unfamiliar heights. The decision is yours!

One thing is for certain: boredom doesn't stand a chance during your summer holiday in the nature park and glacier region! This is ensured by a varied program for the whole family. Kauni, the swift ibex, is the mascot of the Kaunertal and is here to help visitors of all ages get the most out of summer in the Tyrolean mountains.

Family hikes in the Kaunergrat Nature Park

For little explorers, the Kaunergrat Nature Park is a veritable adventure paradise! On Explorers' Day, the little ones can walk along various adventure trails following the tracks of wild animals or discover the secrets of the Piller Moor. The entire family will surely enjoy exploring our nature on the forest adventure trail with its hand-carved wooden animals.

Hike through the Gallruthstollen tunnel

During the summer months, a hike through the Gallruthstollen tunnel is offered weekly, provided it is open. You're going to want to put this on your agenda - it’s worth it, we promise! Especially if you are interested in the unique irrigation system of the Tyrolean Alps. The path initially leads along the slope channel before entering the 990 m long Gallruthstollen with just torches for light. An adventure for young and old, accompanied by the ancient legends of the region.

But that's not all! Afterwards, you'll continue through a picturesque high valley to the quaint Gallruthalm mountain hut. Then you take the Dr. Angerer Panorama Trail back to the Falkaunsalm. Does this sound like just the adventure for you and your family? Sign up today and get ready for a fun day.

Knappensteig (miners' trail) & Adlerblick Viewing Platform

Let's trace the steps of Kaunertal’s miners. Centuries ago, the Kaunertal was a beehive of activity for miners seeking silver and copper due to the rich ore deposits in the mountains. You can now put on your own helmet and carry a torch to explore an original mine and chip out some ore from the stone. You can then take a well-deserved break in the company of two miners.

Climbing paradise for the whole family

Not far from the Knappensteig, tucked away in a small, idyllic copse, lies a rock with the melodious name β€˜Keilschrofen’. This Schrofen - (rock) as we say here in Tyrol - is ideally suited to make the first climbing attempts with our 'hip' and highly trained mountain guide team. Weekly climbing courses for children and families are offered here from June to October.

Holderli Seppl Via Ferrata

Even braver adventurers then dare to go to the Holderli Seppl via ferrata in the Fernergries. But do not worry: this via ferrata is ideal for sporty families and children. Under the expert guidance of the Kaunertal mountain guides you will climb the red rocks along the Rifflerbach. You will be rewarded at the end of the via ferrata with a breathtaking mountain panorama over the Kaunertal and the Weißseespitze in the background. Here you can truly feel the magic of the mountains!
