The nature park and glacier region Kaunertal

The nature park and glacier region Kaunertal is one Tyrol’s most picturesque holiday regions. It is a true mountain idyll away from all the noise and stress - prepare to be enchanted by every town’s very own romantic atmosphere. Kauns, Kaunerberg and Kaunertal are members of Kaunergrat nature park. The picturesque village of Fendels is situated in a splendid location offering awe-inspiring panoramas.

Kaunertal nestles between Glockturm ridge and Kaunergrat in the middle of 3,000 m summits. Kaunertal and Kaunergrat nature park with their many lodges and mountain huts offering refreshments, high-altitude and themed walks is attracted for hikers and those with a head for heights alike. The Kaunertal glacier ski resort at the foot of Weissee summit can guarantee winter sports from autumn to early spring. Don’t miss out on a trip on the panorama road passing Gepatsch artificial lake to the perpetual ice of Weißseeferner – including in the summer!

Don’t try to find “Kaunertal” on any maps though – it’s not a town but consists of hamlets called Nufels, Platz, Vergötschen, Unterhäuser, Feichten and Grasse. The principal town of Feichten is situated in romantic nature at an altitude of 1,287 m.

The place to relax - Kauns

Kauns is situated on a broad and gentle sun terrace. A little off the beaten track, it maintains its air of calm, relaxation and romantic village life. Its sunny location at an altitude of 1,050 m creates a very mild and pleasant climate. Which is why Kauns is also called the “2nd Meran" in Tyrol!
Kauns is the ideal starting point for many beautiful hikes such as to Aifner lodge, Aifner summit, Piller Höhe, Gachen Blick viewing platform, Falpaus and of course for excursions to Kaunergrat nature park. We can also wholly recommend the herb gardens, wood learning path, dry grassland with butterfly meadows, slope watering system, castle houses and the impressive Berneck Castle. In winter, its proximity to well-known ski resorts is one of its many benefits, and many cleared hiking paths take you through the enchanted winter landscape.

Kaunerberg hiking paradise

The holiday and health resort Kaunerberg with its tiny hamlets is located at 1,270 to 1,600 m above sea level at the entrance to Kaunertal. Thanks to its slopes, it enjoys more hours of sunshine than any other village in Tyrol. Discover a unique hiking and nature paradise without even using your car - and travel along magnificent hiking paths like the panorama road and the Kaunerberg water trail. Especially noteworthy: Kaunerberg slope channel watering system, Piller Moor, prehistoric sites at Piller Sattel, the astonishing view from "Gachen Blick", dry grassland, the lodges and Schnadiger Weiher. In winter, the Hubertus trail starts immediately at “Gachen Blick” viewing platform. Active skiers can will find many top ski resorts at a distance of only a few kilometres.

Sunny paradise Fendels

With around 250 inhabitants, Fendels is one of the country’s smallest municipalities. Nestling on the majestic Glockturmkamm ridge and in a panoramic location above the Inntal valley, Fendels is a contemplative holiday paradise away from the main tourist crowds. With farsightedness, nature here has long been treated with care. The hiking lift takes you to an impressive mountain world including “Fallender Bach” waterfall - the natural symbol of the entire region. Fendels is 1,356 m above sea level and can boast a unique view over the Tyrolean Oberland. In summer, Fendels is the ideal starting point for hikes to Fendler Alm lodge, Anton-Renk-Hütte with its breath-taking Fallenden Bach waterfall, Stalanzalpe etc. The cable car and chair lift make the climb to the Sattelklause mountain station easier for less experienced hikers. In winter, Fendels is a skiing paradise for families. 14 km of slopes with family-friendly as well as demanding descents await you.
