Winter hiking and snowshoeing
Through the snow on tiny and less tiny feet
Winter hiking and snowshoeing are quiet, contemplative pastimes for the whole family. And a romantic alternative to skiing in Kaunertal.
”Snowmotion” away from trails and slopes in the middle of a beautiful wintry landscape: Many hiking routes (most of them accessible) cross Kaunertal – often parallel to the trails –, surrounded by forests, snow and tranquility. On these paths, Nordic Winter Walking also becomes a sporty pleasure - a Nordic Walking school teaches you the right and most effective technique on Mondays, Wednesdays and on Fridays.
And where the paths end, your snowshoes will smooth the way. Some of the most beautiful snowshoe hikes - including guided tours in the weekly programme - take you deep inside the Kaunergrat nature park, such as to Verpeil mountain hut, Aifner lodge or Falkauns lodge. The Naturparkhaus is an ideal starting point for your fun in the snow on foot or in your “yeti shoes” - Piller Sattel offers a round hiking route with great views.
Winter programme at Kaunergrat nature park
Special winter scout tours for kids are also offered at the nature park. Get out into nature with mountain guides, biologists, hunters and farmers in the Kaunergrat nature park and discover the magic of winter and of life in the wintry forest. The nature park winter programme includes something for everyone - for smaller and bigger snow fans alike! The Naturparkhaus Kaunergrat at Piller Sattel is fully accessible. Do not miss out on its interesting interactive exhibition ”3,000 m vertical” for the whole family and the unique view “Gachen Blick”!

To warm up, stop for a bite to eat at one of the many quaint restaurants and huts, and revive your spirits with “G‘selchtem”, “Tiroler Kas”, “Krapfen”, “Kiachlen“ and a cup of tea, or with a “Stamperl” of locally distilled liquor.
