Accessible summer holidays
It all started when access to the Kaunertal glacier was made possible in the 1970s and the wheelchair-accessible glacier restaurant opened. Hotel Weisseespitze followed as the first four-star wheelchair hotel in the Alps – receiving multi-awards – as did other accessible accommodation such as Haus Renate. Public facilities such as the tourism office and indoor pool, but also all shops and many bars and restaurants in Kaunertal are fully accessible. Even Kaltenbrunn pilgrimage church is accessible. Kaunergrat nature park with its accessible Naturparkhaus at the “Gachen Blick” viewing site was built in 2007 and hence since made an important contribution to the tourism offer. The architecturally fascinating building is an ideal starting point for the nature park region and has a beautiful sun terrace - it also home to the exhibition ”3,000 m vertical” – a multimedia interactive show which will open up an entirely new way of looking at plants, animals and people in the nature park.
